I embarked on this project in May of 2011, after lots of time thinking about whether or not I could be the kind of person to approach people on the street and say, "Hey, I'd love to take your photo". After wandering through Queens and Manhattan for a day with my dear friends Sandra, Natasha and Ali and commenting on all the potential for an interesting photo I was given a time limit, actually, more of a "Pick a stranger now!" So, I did. I met Cosmoalien and Gus in front of the Flat Iron building. They had just moved to NYC from Georgia. My favorite part of the experience was hearing Gus say, "I can finally be who I am, who I really am". I have a long way to go on the project. Enjoy the beginning!

What a fabulous idea. I don't think I'd have the confidence, but maybe one day I will now I've seen these lovely, smiling, happy, welcoming faces.
ReplyDeleteYou would be surprised, Sue! I have not had one single stranger say no when I asked for a photo. I will add the link to the Flickr project so you can see that. There are literally thousands of people doing this project. You just have to ask that first one...
